NOTES FROM JURY CHAIR: Patrick brought these to the winter festival of crafts at Lourdes university in December. And looking at the picture that they look very nice and he was a very nice man. If you can get a close-up on some of them You would be able to see that his junctions do not match they have gaps in them, you can see daylight through the wood my guess is that he did not use any kind of wood clamps also there were drips of glue that had not been sanded away and we’re very noticeable and again you cannot see it in the picture but some of the edges were rough and had not had any finishing sanding done on them. If we jury this particular person in person we would be able to explain those things to him and see him be successful with his craft!

STEPHANIE LUDWIKOWSKI
MEMBERSHIP REQUESTED: Individual
CATEGORIES TO BE SCORED:
1) Candles and Melting Tarts
2) Skin Care Products
3) Other: Sublimated Tumblers, shirts, hoodies
NOTES FROM JURY CHAIR: I have requested more information from Stephanie about her candles, tarts, t-shirts, and hoodies. I looked at her website and it did say we are a family business so we might need to look into this a little further.
ADDITIONAL INFO RECEIVED:
Bath bomb process: When making bath bombs i make sure i have plenty of work space cleared and my baking sheets are cleared of product. The first thing i do is decide which mold i want to use. All of my molds have their own specific fragrance i use. After i get my mold and fragrance oil together i then gather up my ingredients. I measure all my ingredients out and put them into my mixing bowl. Once all the ingredients (except for one) is added, i mix it all then spray it with water 8-12 times. Soon as it looks mixed enough and the color has spread, i feel it to see if it needs any more oil or water. If it does not, i then add my last ingredient then mix some more till that is completely mixed into the mixture. When that is done i then take my mixing bowl off of my mixer and start putting it into my mold. I use 3D molds so it has multiple pieces. I press my mold once it’s filled then i tap the back off, grab a cardboard square cut out put it on that then tap the rest of my bath bomb out. I then repeat the process till all of my mix is gone. After my mix is gone, i think take my bowl, mixing tool, and mold and wash them and clean them. I leave my mold out to completely dry cause water will warp them.
Candle process: When i make candles, i have to put in a lot of thought to them. Making candles are not easy and it consists of a lot of math trial and error. The first thing i do is while the inside and outside of my jars with rubbing alcohol to get any reside or fibers off. Next i decide when fragrance oil i would like to use. Once i have all that figured out i grab my wicks, wick tabs, melting pot, scale and my container that holds all of my soy wax. I grab my cup and fill it with wax until i get the desired weight then i dump it into the melting pot. I have that set on no more than 200 degrees because i do not want to burn my wax. As it’s melting i measure put the correct amount of fragrance oil i need then i place my wicks in my jars. When the wax is done melting AB’s at the desired temperature i add my fragrance oil then mix it together for 2-3 minutes. I let my wax cool till it reaches 150 degrees then i pour it into my jars. Once hardened, i put the lids i poke holes into the tops then take my heat gun to the tops of the candles to fill in any sink holes. I then place the lids on and let them cure for 4-6 weeks before i sell them that way the wax and fragrance oil have time to bind together.

ESSAY: I have been sewing 40 years . Working in the sewing business since I was 16. I made all my clothes or years. Done lots of home dec things curtains, pillows lots of quilts, T-shirt quilts etc. lots of masks. Microwave bowls made over 200 or so. Everyone one needs at least 1. The bowls are all cotton fabric, batting and thread. Plate holders are the same. Starts out with a 11”square fabric round the corners and make darts to make it round repeat for the batting. Sew a X through both layers . See darts and put fabric and batting together right sides together and turn to the right side and top stitch and it is done. Do the same for the plate holder. Wine holder or bottle holder is fabric and the batting with bias tape for the handles. I am working on a pattern for a back pack will send pictures when done. I enjoy making things. Can’t wait to join your group. Rita has been wanting me to do this a long time. Hopefully I am retiring next year. I still work full time. Hope this will help. Have a good night. KATHLEEN AND HOLLY SHEEKS (mailed to Debi)
MEMBERSHIP REQUESTED: Team

ESSAY: In an effort to build integrity, authenticity, and quality into locally produced works of art,
the Toledo Craftsman’s Guild is openly encouraging characteristics of originality, variety
and continuing development and further education into the arts community. Hence, we
look forward to participating in the Toledo Craftsman’s Guild.
Holly-Fiber
Original hand created slippers, hats, headbands, scarves and afghans are expertly
made and finished with precision craftsmanship showing attention to detail. Variety is
achieved by color, texture and yarn types and manipulation, as well as stitch patterns
and pattern combinations which add to the interest created in each design. In selecting
my yarns, I look locally and fair trade yarns. The fair trade yarn, I’m currently working
with is from Turkey. Fun, eclectic designs and more sophisticated creations offer a wide
range of choices and styles. Success has also been achieved by individuals who have
ordered private custom designs and are also provided.
Kathleen-Paper Craft-Other
Eclectic describes the inspiration, the 2-D and 3-D forms, variety and subject matter for
creating my paper art pieces. Scrapbooking lead to card making. Inspirations are
incorporated into origami, seasonal artwork ornaments , banners, tussie mussie, cards,
gift card holders, memory albums for Fall/Halloween, Christmas, Valentines, Easter,
garden art, home decor. Using stamps, various die cutting machines, inks, different art
mediums, card stock, wood, paper mache, vintage lace, buttons, found objects, etc are
used in creating original designs not massed produced. Any number of items that can
be papered, glued, stamped, painted, embossed or embellished are included. My
designs are meant to surprise, delight and inspire joy, humor and recall sweet memories
from times past and hope for the future. Numerous private customers have enjoyed one
of a kind items designed for their individual requirements.
NOTES FROM JURY CHAIR: I felt the essay was not very descriptive and spent a lot of time with her trying. to find out what and how they make their craft. The last attachment is the result of that conversation, which is as bad as the original. Basically, they crochet booties, hats, and scarves, use some kind of starch to make the hats stand up and embellish them and paint the backs of canvases, and glue on the nativity scene bows and lace. -- Deb
